Florida - Day 19

Today we just chillaxed at the condo. It's the first time we've taken a whole day off of touring, and it was very much needed. We sat by the pool, watched TV in the air conditioning, and ate good food. We also made a little list of things we like about Florida and our trip, and things we don't, as well as some other tid bits.

Things we don't like about Florida:
Recycling: No one recycles here. Theme parks usually have recycling for cans and bottles, but no household recycling programs AT ALL! We just throw all our containers in the garbage. It breaks our hearts. It's ironic how many of the theme parks have had "save the earth" type attractions, like Rafiki's Planet Watch, and then the whole system seems to not have heard nor heeded that message. A huge disconnect.

Warm tap water:  The water never gets cold from the tap. It comes out of the ground here at 23C so water from the tap is always warmish. We're used to it by now, but we kept waiting for it to get cold at first, or you'd check that you do in fact have the cold tap on.

Eating while traveling: Eating on the road or at theme parks is either expensive or inconvenient. Not our favourite, but we're doing our best.  Good thing Kaija likes hummus and pita bread, and Aria likes hard boiled eggs. These are staples in our theme park lunches.

Things we do like about Florida:
Connie loves that she hasn't vacuumed anything for nearly 3 weeks now. Rick likes sleeping in. The girls like that they each have their own TV's in their rooms and that they get to do something fun everyday. We love that getting wet is never a chore so water fun has been huge. Also, observing the flora and fauna has been great. Little lizards everywhere, interesting birds all over, as well as exotic, beautiful and lush greenery everywhere.  We've enjoyed the fairly predictable weather:  hot everyday, a short thunderstorm in the afternoon, and then a little cooler in the evening). The highways are also worth mentioning as they are the smoothest highways we've ever driven on. It's been fun to meet people from all over the world here. I had no idea how popular a Florida vacation is for Europeans. You hear many accents and languages everywhere, from the keys to the theme parks. It always makes waiting for an attraction seem shorter when you get to know the people around you.

Probably the best part of our vacation have been all the fun times we've had together as a family. We laugh a lot. We love to make fun of the whole "Happiest Place on Earth" thing, especially when you see meltdowns by kids and parents alike all over in the theme parks. We've dubbed them, "Happiest Place on Earth" moments.  We have our fair share of them too. Hot, tired and hungry people can't be expected to be on their best behaviour, but when we're fed, cool and rested, we're having lots of fun.

The pool in our resort where hung out today.
