We made it and are enjoying our first days in Florida. So far we have dipped our feet in the Atlantic at Cocoa Beach and spent a day at the Kennedy Space Centre. No one had very high expectations for the Space Centre, but it far exceeded our expectations. The shuttle simulator was pretty exciting and the multi-media experiences are spectacular. We even got to see Bill Nye the Science Guy talk about space. Turns out he's not just a pretty face from TV - he's really smart and has degrees and stuff. Aria even got to ask him a question.
It's exactly as hot as we were imagining, but we are coping. Gatorade and air conditioning are our saviours. It's truly the opposite of our winter as our sunglasses fog up when we go outside! Our hotel is nothing special, but it's decent with a great breakfast at Denny's everymorning, and most importantly, it has a pool! Unfortunately, I forgot the power cord for the laptop at home, so posting pictures will have to wait until we can buy another one (good thing we needed to buy a new one soon anyway!). Tomorrow we look forward to seeing the Juno rocket launch, and to relaxing at Cape Canaveral National Seashore for the rest of the day. I'm off to enjoy some ice cream by the pool.

One of the 1st things we saw after landing. A cow under a palm. It made us giggle. Tee hee. |

These are the fuel cells for the shuttle. Rediculously huge. See the girls underneath to get a sense of the scale. |
Bill Nye answering Aria's question, "How many earths would fit into the sun."

Ooo ooo... hot, hot, hot! |
|
Dr. Nye, I have a question. "Why does my mom's hair get so big when it's humid?" I shake my head everytime I see my straightening iron in my suitcase. At 90% humidity, I've decided to embrace the frizz, I mean, natural body of my hair. |

A proud moment for these Canadians. |

This is Juno, a day before it blasts off toward Jupiter. |
Data - if you don't know who that is, don't worry.

It is "Sci Fi Summer" at Kennedy Space Center, so there are 2 Star Trek exhibits. Rick LOVED it. I sat on a bench. |

The suit Jim Lovell used in an Apollo mission to the moon (played by Tom Hanks in Apollo 13). |

This is an rocket that never went to the moon, but it's like the ones they used in the Apollo Missions. They had the fire power of an atomic bomb. It's hard to believe anyone was brave enough to strap themselves to that and shoot themselves into space. Craziness! |
