Florida - Day 3
Today we witnessed the rocket Juno blast off on it's 5-year journey to Jupiter. It's hard to imagine it will actually get there, but it was pretty amazing to see it blast off. It sounded like a strong thunderstorm. We waited for about 1 1/2 hours beside a nice family from Tampa who had a live feed on their phone so that we knew exactly when it would take off. It was delayed because of some helium problem, and then because some yahoo in a boat drove too near.
Then we were off to Canaveral National Seashore where we did a boardwalk trail (trying hard not to think about alligators and big spiders), did a nature drive where we saw hundreds of birds (most of which we unsuccessfully tried to identify), and then played in the waves for hours. Oh, and we also saw wild manatees in a canal. They are funny. They look like big balloons floating in the water. Kaija in particular was thrilled. We can just about go home already as we've seen the 2 things on her list - dolphins and manatees.
It's a big joke about how we have "almost" seen alligators dozens of times as every stick in the water can look like one and there's water everywhere. I really did see one, but no one believes me.
We just ended the day with pizza and a movie in the hotel room as we are a little cooked from the heat.
Tomorrow - off to Homosassa Springs to meet "our" manatees and then down to St Pete Beach - our new home for the next 5 days. Still working on getting a power cord so that we can post some pictures. Maybe tomorrow.
Waiting in the heat.
The rocket entrails.
They grow them big here. Yikes!
