Day 6 - Downtown Portland
Trains, Trams and Automobiles
So, heat advisory or not, we decided that we needed to check out Portland before we leave tomorrow, so we donned as little as possible and headed out into the heat. (38 C heat!) We were all curious about Portland's famous light rail system, so with our maps in hand, we hopped aboard.
Portland is such a beautiful city. We enjoyed the architecture, the cobblestone streets and the very friendly people. In the morning, we checked out the famous Powell's Used Books store. We lingered both for the great books and the air-conditioning. We also checked out many of Portland's public fountains which are designed for splashing in during the summer months. Brilliant! Just when we'd get hot and tired from walking, there was another one around the corner.
At the end of the day, we tried a tram, which unlike other trams we've taken, is not really meant for tourists. It's for commuters, but it was fun anyway, and gave us a great view of the city.

This train car sums up our experience of Portland - peace, love and organic flatbread.
