Day 8 Fort Stevens July 11
Moss, Mist and Miles of Sand
At breakfast, we gave the girls some options for activities, like visiting the fort or exploring some seaside towns, but you could see in their eyes that all they wanted was to go back to the beach. So back to the beach we went, but only in the afternoon in the hopes of warmer temperatures.
A note about the weather: We were prepared for cooler weather at the coast, but we were not prepared for cold. The high here is 15C today, with a high humidity! It’s like we’re in a cloud. It’s not really raining, but everything is wet anyway. Moss would grow on your head here if you stood still long enough.
We spent the morning visiting Fort Stevens, which the girls thought was amazingly boring and somewhat disturbing. It doesn't help that it's so cold that you don't want to see anything outside, much less guns and rusty stuff. It was also interesting to note the nature of the pose they took beside the canon. Hmmmm..... Aggression begets aggression it seems.
In the evening we went out in search of ice cream in a nearby town called Seaside. It is a very cute town with a beautiful beach, but it was raining or misting or whatever you call this weather, so we checked out a few shops to escape the cold and enjoyed our ice cream inside. Aria enjoyed a ride on an old fashioned carousel and she chose a kitty to ride on with a fish in it’s mouth. Also, the girls got their first taste of fudge. We are trying not to be too disappointed with the weather, but we could really use some sun.
Here we are with Lewis & Clark.
